Recommended Charities

Your choice of charity is very important. By choosing carefully you can get much more impact from your donation or volunteering and thereby help many more animals. Indeed, it is not even a matter of some charities being 10 or 100 times as effective: even restricted to the field of public outreach in the US, our research shows that some are up to 1,000  times as effective as others.

It can be very difficult to compare charities when they focus on different things, and it is impossible to find a single 'best' charity. However, we have spent a large amount of time researching the issue, and have made considerable progress. We share this research in depth in our section on Overview and Criteria, but have created this page for those who want a direct recommendation.

The Humane League

Vegan Outreach

Our research suggests that these organizations prevent the largest amount of suffering for farm animals per dollar donated. Please click through to read further.

Other organizations are also undertaking similar projects in the domain of veg outreach. Currently, we know of Mercy For Animals, VegFund and FARM undertaking online facebook ads similar to those of The Humane League and Vegan Outreach; however, these three organizations have not provided public evidence of their cost and effectiveness as of yet. EAA is currently expanding its scope beyond direct veg outreach interventions. We find it possible that more good could be done through certain more indirect means, such as corporate and media campaigns, legislative advocacy, and research.
